A few years ago, I had the chance to train and then participate in a real boxing match. I learned a lot about the sport, enjoying exercise, and myself during that activity. I learned that you really can enjoy the exercise that you are doing. I learning that powerful is beautiful. Here is a list of the things that I learned about boxing and what fueled my love for the sport.
Exercise Doesn’t Need to be Structured
While there is some structure to a boxing match, one of the most exhilarating parts is anticipating your opponents move and readjust your strategy. So often, we get into the routine of structuring our workouts in sets and reps that we forget to enjoy ourselves. Boxing has taught me that I can break outside of the bounds and have fun being spontaneous and get a great workout at the same time.
Exercise Should Make You Feel Powerful
No matter how strong you are, or how hard you hit, boxing has the ability to make you feel powerful. Plus, the activity itself will make you strong over time. It is so rewarding to see the difference as you do something that you enjoy. It makes the results that much better.
Exercise Should Be Fun
I have a lot of fun boxing. It gets my heart rate up, my adrenaline pumping, and my feet moving. By the time your session is over, you will not even feel like you have been exercising that entire time. But your body will surely appreciate the cardio. It is hard to find a cardio exercise that is really fun and addictive and trust me, boxing is that exercise.
Exercise Can Be The Ultimate Stress Reliever
There is nothing more calming than taking out your stress and any pent up aggression on a boxing bag. Do you have a particularly stressful job or did you just have a bad day at work? Boxing can be a great way to relieve that stress and melt away the bad day in an adrenaline-filled and overall lovely way.
I have learned so much about pushing my mind and my body to the limits with boxing. I have learned that I am capable of far more than I could ever imagine and that I am stronger than I ever imagined. Choosing boxing is something I will never forget because it gave me a chance to express myself and grow my confidence. It also taught me that exercise is more than working out your body, it is improving your mind and overall well-being. And I am sure that it can do the same for you.
